There are some excellent cafes and tea-rooms in the village.
The food at Pete's Eats is so good and has such long
opening hours that we have put his cafe under our Restaurants section.
Two cafes which serve excellent light lunches and teas are the
ones in the Electric Mountain Visitor
Centre and the National Slate Museum of Wales. Both the
centre and the museum have free entry and you can either
incorporate your lunch into a visit, or just go for the cafe
itself. We have been to both of these, and they are excellent
places for when you are staying around the village during the
day.
Don't forget the 'SeaFresh' Fish and Chip Shop and Cafe, also
on the High Street. Generous helpings of excellent food, and a
life-saver for us when we are in the middle of a busy
season.
also in the village itself, on the High Street, you will find Crib
Goch Crafts. This has some interesting craft and gifts for sale,
as well as a cafe. We have not yet eaten there ourselves, but
will be doing so soon, and will expand this entry when we do.
If you fancy a short walk partway up the Llanberis path
towards Snowdon, you will be very well rewarded by visiting the
Pen y Ceunant
Isaf tea rooms, at the Llanberis end of the path up to
Snowdon. This is a beautifully-restored 18th century cottage
where you can get a range of speciality teas and coffee as well
as cold drinks (no meals, but often you can get beautiful cakes
and scones, and you are welcome to eat your own sandwiches at the
house). There are guided tours of the house every day (10.00am to
1.00pm) and you are sure of a warm welcome whenever you go. You
don't even need to buy anything in order to sign Steffan's
visitors' book and have the tour of the house - though the rooms
and the log fire are so inviting that you almost certainly will
want to.
The tea-rooms have strong links to the mountain rescue service
and to the North Wales Wildlife Trust - you can join the trust at
the cottage if you wish. Pen y Ceunant Isaf is a perfect place
for short (but steep) walk along the road (about 15-20 minutes
from our house), or to stop after your walk down from the summit
of Snowdon.
